Episode 6: Master Your Time with Jennifer Major

On this episode of the Marketing Your Local Business Online Podcast, we’re chatting with Jennifer Major of Cultivating You. Jennifer is a Holistic Organization & Productivity Specialist and Speaker who helps women business owners find freedom from chaos because we all deserve clutter-free spaces and more time for naps and money.

Today we’re diving into how small business owners can more effectively manage their time. One of the biggest challenges I hear from small business owners when it comes to their marketing is that they just don’t have the time to do it. Jennifer shares why small business owners struggle with time management along with practical tips and tricks to more effectively manage our time.

So, why is it that small business owners struggle with time management aside from the obvious that we wear many hats. In short, we struggle often with saying no. If you’re a new business owner, this can be especially difficult as you’re trying to get your business off the ground. However, when we say yes to everything, we end up diluting our focus on the things that are most important to us.

Jennifer starts by sharing that only 40% of your day should be scheduled. This seems small, but life happens and having flexibility on your calendar will allow you to be more productive. Treat your schedule like a VIP list and only schedule what is most important to you! Not everything qualifies to be on your calendar.

She also shares how to be more strategic about your scheduling. It’s important that you find your sweet spots and which times of day work best for certain tasks. For example, if you find that your creative juices flow best in the morning, dedicate your morning to social media content creation. Additionally, add in something happy when you’re doing a task you don’t like. For example, you could play a fun playlist or podcast to help you get through it.

It’s also critical that your physical work space is in order to foster a productive work environment. Organization and time go hand in hand. The more organization you have in your life (of your time and physical work space), the better you will be able to show up for your work, your clients, and your family. Create work space rituals that can set the tone for your day. Some ideas include candles, essential oil diffusers, short meditations, or an energizing playlist.

I also highly recommend checking out her membership, Clear Your Chaos, a program that I’ve been a part of for quite some time. It’s worth every penny!

Hi friends! My name is Sydney, founder of Marathon Marketing & Branding, and I’m so happy you’re here! As you might have guessed, I am an avid runner, which allows me to have more of that pinot and pasta in life. Running long-distance is all about training, endurance, and consistency. I realized that these same traits are directly applicable to social media marketing as well.
